“The Superhero Exercise”

  1. Think of a challenging situation that you want to change and feel like you have no control over. It can even be a past situation that you wish you handled differently and had the power to change.

  2. Create a character and have the character solve the situation for you. Don’t overthink this—write the first thing that comes to mind. Murder is appropriate. Someone almost always dies and/or is tortured in a SIN Film.

I completed this assignment based on something that I experienced in my previous neighborhood. I lived on a block where a few people reserved parking spots with orange cones. One of them was a man that lived directly next door to me and a woman that lived directly in front of me. If my sister (which I consider an extension of myself) or I moved their cones, both this man and this woman would come knocking at our door at all times of the night demanding that we move.

They left notes on our car and it got to the point where they threatened us with violence. They did this despite us providing them with the city’s policy saying this was unlawful. The woman, more so than the man, was a real bitch and was pressing all my buttons—   I wasn’t above being violent, but I was above going to prison because I wanted to kill this bitch for bringing her ratchet ass to the place where I slept and I wanted peace above all things.

So how did my alter ego/character handle this situation…

I blew up her fucking car. Kinda hard to argue over a parking spot when you don’t have a car.
